Chicken Run

Chickens are fun creatures to have around the homestead.

We love letting them free range around the yard. Some days I’ll just go outside and watch them as they peck around the ground. When they find a worm EVERYONE knows it and they all coming running trying to snatch the worm or morsel of food from the other.

You can be sure that if you’re out enjoying your morning cup of joe, to have a visitor or two with your morning coffee and maybe a few others to help you with your even glass of wine.

Unfortunately, the predators are always waiting and willing to take one or two off your hands for you so after lost yet one more of my youngins’ to a hawk we decided it was time to install a ‘run’.

This past weekend we set out to install a chicken run and I think it is perfect.

Our chicken coop is fairly simple; It’s a chainlink dog kennel with a flat metal roof on it. We’ve buried fencing around the perimeter to keep critters out and it’s provided shelter for the kids
