Loyalty

Loyal

adjective

  1. giving or showing firm and constant support or allegiance to a person or institution. "loyal service"

When you think of loyal what comes to mind?

Loyal to a spouse, a friend, an employer, maybe?

Loyalty is a great quality to have.

When you look at a relationship, no matter what relationship, loyalty, in my opinion, is one of the top 5 characteristics to look for.

On the flip side Loyalty should not have a death grip on you.  It should not be a stronghold that binds you so tight that you get stuck. Have you ever heard of being loyal to a fault? Well, that’s me.

Loyalty doesn’t mean you should get stuck in a relationship.

Loyalty doesn’t mean losing the freedom to choose whether you stay or go.

I was recently told that my loyalty to others will shorten my life.

At first you may think that is crazy, but think about it.  By being loyal to others are we choosing not to be loyal to ourselves?

If one member of the relationship (spouse, friend, employer/employee) breaks the trust then the other person is no longer bound to that loyalty.

We can be loyal and be free at the same time.
